To Russia With Love

It was on the eve of my 7th wedding anniversary that I met a very special friend. My husband and I made reservations earlier in the week to celebrate this special occasion at a nearby Brazilian restaurant. When we arrived, the gracious hostess met us at the door and ushered us to our table. She congratulated us on our anniversary and was so sincere and sweet. While waiting for our meal, I walked over to her and asked if she wouldn’t mind taking several photos of us to commemorate our special  evening. I felt so comfortable around her that I invited her to join us in a couple of the shots. During our introductions, I was intrigued to hear that this lovely woman named Ksenia was a dancer from Russia. She’d been living in Los Angeles for a couple months and was enjoying her stay. We chatted for a few more minutes and we exchanged our contact information. I texted her the photos before leaving the restaurant and we promised to stay in touch.

We connected on FaceBook and communicated a few times through text messages. The first time I spoke with her on the phone, she revealed that she was pregnant. I made arrangements to visit her that week at her home and brought one of my closest friends with me. We all prayed and stood in agreement that God had created this baby and He would provide for them. The father of her baby did not want the responsibility of a child, and she’d agreed to raise the baby on her own.

My beautiful friend prayed and asked God if she should stay here in the States or return to Russia. She received her answer, and made plans to fly home to be with family. We spent some incredible time together before she left. We talked about the divine timing of our meeting each other; at a time when she needed a loving friend to lift her spirits and pray for her. She was so touched when I presented her with the greatest gifts I could offer her – the two books I’d written. She packed them carefully in a silk bag to protect them on her lengthy flight. I saw her on the morning before she left for the airport and my heart was saddened to say goodbye to my angelic friend. I wish that we could have spent more time together and pray that I will see her and that precious baby in the near future.
